Time for an Ice Cream Social
Am I uncultured? Uncouth? Don't know, but I've never been to an Ice Cream Social before.
Hosted by those fine folks, (and friends of Untold LA), the West Adams Heritage Association, this Social was a pleasant afternoon - a slight, shaded respite from the heat wave we currently have here in, at the very least, Southern California.
I've never been interested in historical re-enaction societies, (how do those Civil War types deal with wearing all that wool - in the Southern heat and humidity? Madness!), yet with our now ubiquitous communications technology swarming around us demanding our time I suppose one can see the pull towards a less 'electronic' time. We're living in the age of fantasy now where science-fiction has become obsolete, (we've already crossed over into the world of the future - I mean look at this thing for instance - you know they're going to get popular), so what better way to relax than to take a vacation from the new-modern and slip into an idealized past?
I'll leave you with the photo below. I swear to you I didn't not ask the child to pose this way. I just said "Hey kid, let me take your pitcha", and boom, he busted out with the old-school child star pose.
I'm off now to make myself a root-beer float and see if Netflix has any online Shirley Temple.
