Untold LA

Photographing the Astonishing Homes of LA's West Adams District

In 2012 photographer Jett Loe encountered the forgotten Los Angeles District of West Adams, the original wealthy area of town, the “Beverly Hills before Beverly Hills.”  Filled with an astonishing collection of Victorian and Craftsman homes in vibrant, diverse neighborhoods West Adams proved to be a revelation.  Following a successful Kickstarter campaign Jett spent two years producing this mammoth delight of a book that documents the variety of homes and people in the area.

Totaling a fully interactive 365 pages with 500 photos, 70 oral history audio clips from West Adams residents and two hours of behind-the-scenes video commentary, Untold LA is a massive treasure trove for lovers of Los Angeles, American history and architecture.

Update #5: Thank You All So Much!

Many thanks to all of you who funded Untold LA and helped get the word out! It means the world to me that folks from this community and elsewhere felt motivated to make this project happen.  Here's where we go from here:

* The funds Kickstarter has collected won't be released to me for approximately three weeks.  In the meantime I'll start pre-production: planning out the various aspects of the project and getting ready for shooting.

* If you have purchased a sponsorship or patron spot in the iBook and Website I'll be contacting you in a few days to arrange a preliminary meet for us to go over initial details.

* In approximately two months all of you will receive an email with a variety of questions, such as your mailing address, which will facilitate getting your rewards out to you.  I would send these out today but Kickstarter advises doing this right before the rewards are ready to ship as people are known to move from time to time.

* The Website will be developed in parallel with the iBook, and some material from the project will be available online weeks ahead of the iBook being published.  I will keep you informed via email as to how you can access this material if you're interested; I imagine I'll create a blog documenting the progress of the project and it should be available at the untoldla.com address.

If you have any suggestions as to homes and stories that should be documented or any questions or advice please don't hesitate to email me anytime at: contact@untoldla.com.

Many thanks again - I can't wait to start shooting and discovering even more of the amazing history of the area!
